Let’s set the scene. You’ve got a bag of freshly roasted coffee sitting on the counter. Now comes the question: how are you going to brew it?
Two methods. Two totally different experiences. V60 vs. Espresso.
One’s slow, gentle, and all about clarity. The other? Bold, intense, and straight to the point. Neither is better—just different. So which one suits you best?
V60 – The pour-over purist
This is the go-to for people who like to slow things down. The V60 is a manual pour-over method that uses a cone-shaped dripper, filter paper, and a kettle (preferably one with a gooseneck, if you’re feeling fancy).
What it gives you:
-
Clean, bright, and layered flavours
-
More subtlety and complexity
-
A gentler extraction, perfect for single origin coffees
-
Time to think, breathe, and maybe listen to a podcast while you brew
Best for:
People who enjoy the ritual. Those who want to taste the fine details in their coffee—floral notes, citrus, stone fruits. If you’re brewing our Ethiopian or Kenyan single origins, this is where they shine.
Downside?
It takes time and patience. Not ideal when you're running late or half awake.
Espresso – The bold and the beautiful
Espresso is a different beast. High pressure, short brew time, and serious flavour concentration. This (as a double ristretto base) is the base for all your milky café classics—flat whites, lattes, cappuccinos—but it’s also a powerful way to drink coffee on its own.
What it gives you:
-
Intensity. Big body, rich texture, deep flavour
-
Crema (that golden layer on top that tells you it’s dialled in)
-
A solid hit in a small volume
-
The versatility to drink it straight or with milk
Best for:
People who love a strong brew. If you’re using a blend like Party Blend, espresso brings out its chocolatey sweetness and syrupy depth—especially with milk.
Downside?
It’s less forgiving. You’ll need a good grinder, consistent technique, and maybe a few test shots to get it just right.
So, which one’s for you?
-
Like clarity, clean acidity, and fruity/floral notes? V60.
-
Want richness, body, and a proper wake-up call? Espresso.
-
Got time to tinker and experiment? V60.
-
Need something that can handle milk? Espresso.
At The Roasting Party, we roast for both. Our single origins are ideal for V60 and black brews, while our blends are designed to thrive under espresso pressure—especially when milk’s involved.
Still not sure? Try both. Brewing isn’t about rules—it’s about finding what tastes good to you.
