Our New Pod Range
The coffee pod. Damn, it's been a while.
Roasting Party OG's will know that this isn't our first rodeo. Despite what some might say, nailing this mini-format is far from a mean feat.
After trialing a compostable pod, we learned that these weren't quite as 'eco-friendly' as they might seem; so, we went back to the drawing board.
Now, we're super proud to be launching our shiny new range: a House Blend, a Colombian Single Origin, and a refined Decaf, in partnership with Podback: ensuring these little aluminium beauties get infinitely recycled.
It's our same great, SCA approved specialty coffee, just in a Nespresso compatible format. What dreams are made of.
Tips to Nail the Pod
"W-what?" we hear you say, "I thought you just chucked it in and pressed go".
Look, we aren't the judgey type, we've all felt that insatiable need to have your morning cup of joe right now, but for our pure love for good coffee we gotta say: you can get more out of your machine that you might already know.
Here's a few key things to have fun with and get your pod coffee tastier than you could've imagined.
1. Filter That Darn Water
If you've watched any of our BrewTube videos, you'll know that we preach pretty often the importance of using filtered water for your coffees. Most of the drink is water after all, so if you're not using deliciously crisp filtered water, you're gonna appreciate the benefits that it can bring. Big time.
2. Customise Your Output
Unlike traditional espresso machines, with pods, you can't adjust your dose in, but, you can adjust your output. Experiment with longer extractions, shorter extractions, and volumes.
When pairing your coffee with milk, we always like slightly shorter extractions to maximise on the coffee harmonising with the fats and proteins in the milk: that way, you optimise for thickness and creaminess.
As always, play around with your own preferences, find something that works for you and your machine.
3. Clean, Clean Clean
Whatever your pod machine offers cleaning-wise, we suggest you make the most of it, and regularly. Coffee ground build-up, and just other 'general-gunkiness' will negatively affect your entire coffee.
4. Warm 'Er Up
We don't know about you, but when it comes to how the old joints feel first thing in the morning; we could do with a little warm up.
It's no different for our machines. Getting your machine pepped up will really help with extraction (and also keeping things cleaner for longer), so run a couple of empty shots before you pop the pod in first thing (or any time for that matter, if it's been sitting cold for a little while).
5. Shake it Baby
In our shops, you'll always see our baristas tapping, knocking, needling, and distributing our coffee before tamping and extracting to ensure the grounds are lying as evenly as possible. This is exactly the same concept here.
Before you pop in your pod, give it a good 'ole shake.
So there you have it. 5 Top tips to nail our new pods.
We'd love to hear your feedback, and are, as always, here to answer any questions you might have when it comes to nailing your at home brews.
